H1N1 Flu Information for South Dakota

Flu Checklist
  • Cover your cough
  • Wash your hands frequently
  • If you have a fever, stay home for at least 24 hrs after fever has ended
  • Get vaccinated for H1N1 and for seasonal flu

H1N1(A) influenza spreads person-to-person in much the same way as seasonal influenza viruses. People can prevent both H1N1 influenza and seasonal influenza by practicing common sense hygiene -- wash your hands often, cough and sneeze into a tissue or your elbow, and stay home when ill to avoid infecting others. People should also get vaccinated for both seasonal influenza and H1N1.

All South Dakotans are eligible for the H1N1 vaccine which is available from private providers, clinics, pharmacies, and Department of Health community health offices. Check Vaccination Dates for links to contact information for private providers and department offices. H1N1 vaccination is completely voluntary. The vaccine is free but some providers may charge an administration fee. HN1 Vaccination Consent Form | H1N1 Vaccine Information Statements - Live, Attenuated Nasal Spray | Inactivated (flu shot)
